Waxahachie Local Church and Outreach Ministry News

J.O.Y. Singers
For over 20 years now, the J.O.Y. Singers have been leading a time of singing, prayer, and fellowship for nursing home residents in Waxahachie.

J.O.Y. stands for “Just Older Youth” and it’s a ministry of the First United Methodist Church of Waxahachie with volunteers from several different area churches and denominations. Although many of the volunteers are musically talented, it is not a requirement of participation.

Members of the J.O.Y. Singers go to Renfro Nursing Home on the first and third Tuesdays of each month; Pleasant Manor Nursing Home on the second and fourth Tuesdays; and, if there’s a fifth Tuesday that month, Covenant House Assisted Living Center. They show up at 2:00 p.m. and fellowship with the residents for about an hour or so.

Most of the time, the J.O.Y. Singers sing hymns and gospel songs. At Christmas time the group sings Christmas carols and they always take requests. J.O.Y. Singers sing for about 45 minutes and visit for another 15 to 30 minutes..

For more information about the J.O.Y. Singers ministry, call the First United Methodist Church office at 972-937-4400 or visit www.fumcwax.org.
