You can’t miss the robin’s egg blue and yellow Queen Anne Victorian home next to the Koffee Kup Restaurant just off Hwy 281 in Hico, Texas (pop 1372). First built in 1903 by artist Rufus Wiseman, the home was a perfect location for this couple to begin their dream. They lived upstairs during the first few years, handmaking chocolates in the back and selling them out front.
Within a few weeks of opening their doors, a reporter from the Fort Worth Star Telegram happened through town and stopped by. An article appeared on the front page soon after entitled, "Chocolate Heaven". Since then they have been featured in Texas Monthly, Texas Highways, and Southern Living. In 2009, Wiseman House Chocolates was selected above all other truffles statewide to be served at the Texas Presidential Inaugural Ball.
The Wenzels are grateful to their loyal customers and friends who have entered their story and brought them to where they are today. We are looking forward to the next decade which is sure to bring new creations and new friends to share them with.
Confectioners make great Community Leaders
The Wenzels call the Hill Country home. They are raising four beautiful children in Hico and have lived in the community for over 15 years. Kevin serves on the city council. He has received numerous awards for dedicated service and historic preservation of the town. As Wiseman House Chocolates has grown, the Wenzels needed more space to produce chocolate. Downtown Hico, located in a historic bank building, Kevin renovated what is now known as the Chocolate Studio.
