Scarborough Faire is Back!
By Kathryn E. Eriksen
Celebrate
the year 1533 and King Henry VIII’s court at the 28th annual
Scarborough Faire. As soon as you step through the gates of the
festival, you are taken back to the Renaissance where anything can
happen.
Just to the right of the front gates is a costume shop. They offer a
variety of Renaissance-style attire for men, women and children. Rent
the costume during your stay, and really get into the flavor of the
festival! Prices range from $25 for children and up to $60 for adults.
Festive entertainment includes acts ranging from Thomas Wood – Pyro
Juggler to Doktor Kaboom – Exploding Science. Roving groups of
festivalgoers dressed in authentic renaissance clothing provides
constant entertainment.
The food booths are well spaced throughout the park and offer a wide
variety of choices. A turkey leg eaten without utensils is a must, as
well as sausage-on-a-stick. Foods from around the world are also
offered, such as gyros sandwiches and fajitas.
The artesian and craft shops add to the festive atmosphere, with a
variety of unique gift items. Have you ever fancied yourself as a
belly dancer? Then visit Belly Dance Treasures to discover the perfect
costume. What about hand crafted wind chimes? Celestine Winds is your
destination. There are over 150 artesian and craft booths and shops
scattered around the grounds. Buy a season pass and visit Scarborough
Faire as often as you like (Christmas is only 8 months away!)
The gates open at 10:00 a.m and close at 7:00 p.m. every Saturday and
Sunday night from now until May 26, 2008. Ticket prices are $19.9p for
adults and $6.50 for children. Season passes may be purchased as well.
