Want to Dance Like the Stars?
By Kathryn E. Eriksen

Have you ever watched “Dancing With The Stars?” a reality television show that pairs up celebrities with professional ballroom dancers. Each week, one celebrity is voted off the show, and the last one standing wins the trophy. The catch is that the show is filmed live, where anything can happen. Last season, Marie Osmond actually fainted in front of a national audience! The popularity of the show lies in its unpredictability, and the documented toils and tribulations of the “stars” learning how to salsa, tango and quickstep.

If “Dancing With the Stars” inspired you to learn ballroom dancing, there was no place to satisfy that desire in Ellis County, until now.

The Rogers Hotel is hosting its first series of Ballroom Dancing Lessons in its newly renovated Banquet Room. Kasy Wilson, the current manager of the Café, will lead the six weeks of classes. Kasy is an energetic and bubbly instructor who has a knack for translating complicated steps into simple movements that anyone can follow.

“The key to dancing is for the woman to know how to follow, and the man to know how to lead,” Kasy explained. For example, after a woman understands how to follow her partner, she can dance with even the most proficient ballroom dancer and still be able to match his steps.

What a great Valentine’s Day present! Watch your girlfriend or wife’s eyes light up when you tell her that you want to sign up for Ballroom Dancing Lessons. And to celebrate everyone’s success, a Grand Ball will be held at the end of the session. Kasy will invite her students to take a turn on the dance floor to show off their skills – just as if you were on “Dancing With the Stars!”

Classes start on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in the Banquet Room at the Rogers Hotel. The Grand Ball and dinner will be held on April 15, 2008. The cost is $25 for singles, $35 per couple for each lesson. Please register at the front desk of the Hotel or send an email to either Heather Beck heather@rogershotel.com  or Kasy klwilson@live.com .
