GINGERBREAD TRAIL 5K FUN RUN / WALK
By Jennifer A. Howell

A new event has been added to the line-up of activities taking place during the Annual Gingerbread Trail Tour of Homes. It is the First Annual 5K Fun Run / Walk that will take place on Saturday morning, June 2. The fun run/walk route will begin at Grand Avenue and Main Street; go east on Main Street to Hawkins Street; go south on Hawkins Street to the Hike and Bike Trail; and west on the Hike and Bike Trail to the finish line at Getzendaner Park.

“This is a fun community event for all ages,” said Gingerbread Trail 5K Fun Run/Walk Chairman Sharrell Farmer. “Groups and families are welcome. Come run or walk and tour the beautiful homes en route and enjoy the scenic Hike and Bike Trail,” encouraged Farmer.

Plans are currently underway to expand the annual event next year to include incentives for the serious runner. “The first annual 5K will be untimed, but we hope this event grows every year to include the serious runner, as well as families,” reported Farmer.

Registration for the Gingerbread Trail 5K Fun Run/Walk will begin at 7:00 a.m. at Jefferson Street and Grand Avenue, in the parking lot across the street from the hospital and the event will begin at 8:00 a.m. The registration fee is $20 for adults and $10 for children, ages 11 to 18. There is no registration fee for children 10 years of age and under. Participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt while supplies last. Strollers, wagons, and friendly dogs on leashes are welcome.

All proceeds benefit the Ellis County Museum.
