WAXAHACHIE
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE MEMBERSHIP LUNCHEON
May 17, 2007 The Waxahachie Chamber
of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau held a Membership
Luncheon today at the Waxahachie Civic Center.
The event began with a “Meet and Greet,” followed by a lovely buffet
lunch catered by Occasions Unlimited. Chamber of Commerce President
Teresa McNiel opened the luncheon by welcoming those in attendance and
Gaylord Hanes led the invocation.
Tamara Klopfenstein of Carter BloodCare, a non-profit blood center,
then spoke to the group about the never-ending need for donations of
blood. She encouraged all to consider donating blood on a regular
basis and for businesses, community organizations and churches to
organize blood drives. She also gave the details of two blood donation
events taking place in Waxahachie next week.
The guest speaker for the luncheon was Ron Lehman, Commissioner
Representing Employers for the Texas Workforce Commission. Lehman was
initially appointed by President George W. Bush to the three-member
Commission in July 1998. Lehman’s initial term expired in 2003, but he
has continued to serve in the same capacity for Governor Perry and the
employers of Texas. Lehman’s experience prior to becoming Commissioner
includes 31 years with IBM Corporation. Lehman spoke to members of the
Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce and their guests about the changing
face of the Texas labor market and other timely topics of interest and
value to current and future employers.
The Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce holds two membership luncheons each
year. “We are grateful to Commissioner Lehman for coming to speak to
the membership about employment issues. And we’d like to give a
special thank you to Carter BloodCare for making this luncheon
possible,” said Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce Director of Membership
Shari Alfaro.
