Banner Ads Work Even If Your Visitor Does Not look At!

A new study reveals that website banner ads make an impression even when viewers are not paying attention. According to “An Examination of Different Explanations for the Mere Exposure Effect ” in the June issue of the Journal of Consumer Research, “Regardless of measured click-through rates, banner ads may still create a favorable attitude toward the ad due to repeated exposure.”

The researchers investigated whether “mere exposure effect,” a condition in which people develop a positive perception of stimuli not presented to them on a noticeable level, was also applicable to incidental advertising. In a series of experiments, the researchers discovered that even if people could not recall the content of the ad, repeated exposure led to familiarity, which then led to positive feelings.

Participants had more positive evaluations toward the target banner ad as exposure frequency increased. Surprisingly, participants also showed high levels of tolerance for banner ads on which they were not directly focused. According to the researchers, even after 20 exposures, common wear-out effects were not apparent.  Source: ScienceDaily.com,  May 11,2007

What is a Website Hit?  What is a visit?

Website hits are a good indication of the amount of information, graphical assets and band width that is being transmitted from a website. This information is often  misleading to many as it is misinterpreted as people visits.  A  visitor to a website can generate 100 or more website hits by simply viewing a webpage. If there are 20 assets on a page (,text, graphics, scripts, flash media, forms, email hyperlinks) and this visitor views five pages, 100 hits have been generated by this one visitor.

Website Visits are actual people and/or IP addresses which visit the website. This is a better method of judging the strength of a web site.  For example, these three website, over the last 17 months, have generated over 2.400,000 hits. This translates into approximately 106,000 people actually visiting the site for information and/or to make a purchase.

Site Demographics - Using server side tracking we can tell where and  our visitors are from. The majority are from the USA but we have a surprising amount of foreign visitors, approximately 15%. Over 50% of our visitors are located in Texas. Over 40% are outside of Texas and visit our websites looking for local information in regards to visiting Waxahachie. We receive many requests for lodging information, Bed and Breakfast accommodations, the best places to eat and more. Approximately 34% of our Texas visitors are local returning visitors.

RSS Feed - All three websites are syndicated nationally and growing in popularity as RSS Feeds become more popular with wireless PDAs and IPODs become more  prevalent in our day to day lives.

  • Hits - Web page assets such as graphics, text, videos and links that are downloaded each time someone visits a website.
  • Website Visits - Are actual people or individual IP addresses that visit a web site.
  • Page Views - Actual number of pages a visitor views.
