Iran and Iraq Veterans Should Call Easter Seals
By Kathryn E. Eriksen

Easter Seals, a leading non-profit provider of services to individuals with special needs, has announced a pilot project for veterans returning from the Middle East with traumatic brain injuries. On July 3, 2007, the Easter Seals’ affiliates in Dallas/Fort Worth, Hartford and Sacramento, with funding from the Ludy Family Foundation, announced that they will use a unique brain fitness program to help returning veterans with cognitive difficulties.

According to the Department of Defense, the most common wound to U.S. soldiers in the Middle East is Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). The Department recently reported that there are 21,128 blast survivors.

The computer program that will be used is Posit Science’s Brain Fitness Program. The Brain Fitness Program is a non-invasive computer program that improves memory, communication and clarity of thinking. Posit Science was established to transform recent discoveries in brain research into practical programs. To learn more about Posit Science, please call 1-800-514-3975 or visit www.PositScience.com

If you know of a veteran with mild to moderate TBI, please have them contact Easter Seals at 1-866-423-2981 or email veterans@easterseals.com  to participate in the pilot project. A fourteen-week program is offered, with a small stipend and reimbursement for program-related expenses. There is no cost for the program itself.
